Baptisms at Dayspring are scheduled at least 2-3 times a year. Below you will information about what DCC believes about baptism. Why Should I Be Baptized? 1 – Because Jesus Set The Example For Me To Follow Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Mark 1:9 2 – Because Jesus and His Disciples Commanded It (Jesus) Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world. Matthew 28:19-20 (Apostle Peter) Each of you must turn from your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Acts 2:38 3 – Because It Demonstrates That I Really Am A Believer We can be sure that we know God if we obey his commands. 1 John 2:3 What Is The Meaning Of Baptism? 1 – It Is A Word Picture Of Christ’s Death And Resurrection Christ died for our sins, as the Scriptures say. He was buried, and three days later he was raised to life. 1 Cor. 15:3-4 2 – It Is A Word Picture Of The Change In My Life As A Christ-follower When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun! 2 Cor. 5:17 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Romans 6:4 · Baptism doesn’t make you a believer…it shows that you already are one. · Baptism doesn’t make you a better person. And it doesn’t save you…only your faith in Jesus Christ can do that. Rather, baptism is like a wedding ring…it’s the outward symbol of the commitment you have already made in your heart. God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Ephes. 2:8-9 Why Do I Need To Be Baptized By Immersion? 1 – Because Jesus Was Baptized That Way As soon as Jesus was baptized, he came up out of the water. Matthew 3:16 2 – Because Every Baptism In The Bible Was By Immersion Under Water The official ordered the carriage to stop. He and Philip stepped into the water, and Philip baptized him. Then they stepped out of the water. Acts 8:38-39 3 – Because The Word “Baptize” Means To “Cover With” Water Who Should Be Baptized? · Every person who has received Christ into their life, thus becoming a “Christ-follower.” Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church—about three thousand in all. Acts 2:41 What About Children? · In the New Testament there is no reference to or example of children being baptized. Because of that, at Dayspring we generally do not baptize children under the age of Middle School, as the child must have made this commitment to Christ personally and understand the meaning of it. The pastor will make the final call in these situations. When Should I Be Baptized? · As soon as you have made the commitment to be a Christ-follower. You shouldn’t delay! They were baptized….that very day. Acts 2:41 Philip told the official the Good News about Jesus. As they were going along the road, they came to some water. The official said to Philip, "Look, there's some water. What can keep me from being baptized?" The official ordered the carriage to stop. He and Philip stepped into the water, and Philip baptized him. Acts 8:35-38 · There is no reason to delay. As soon as you have received Christ into your life, you can and should be baptized. Don’t wait until you feel “good enough” or “have your life all together” (it will never happen). What If I Was Baptized As A Child? · Depending on your religious background, your parents may have had you baptized as a small child. You are fortunate that they wanted to dedicate you to God in that way! However, the baptism we are talking about is something you must decide to do, as a result of personally deciding to become a Christ-follower. It shows publicly that you have given your life to God. · Being baptized now should in no way be seen as an offense to your background or your parents, but rather as another necessary “step” in your spiritual life.
